About Your Portrait Session
Preparing for a Photo Shoot
Clients have 2 options for their portraits: Studio or On-location
1) In the studio I make use of diffused flash to give my portaits a beautiful, natural look. My photographic style is very natural and I'll go to extra lengths to help my clients relax in front of the camera so that I can capture candid moments rather than formal, posed shots. The studio is ideal for any type of portrait including corporate, individual, maternity, boudoir, couples and family portraits. Please note that studio flash is not recommended for those who suffer from Photosensitive Epilepsy.
2) On-location shoots are a wonderful way to photograph children at their natural best... playing games, climbing trees, walking in the park, wrestling with siblings, etc. and are highly recommended for families with young, active children or those wanting to include a special place in their photographs.
Before your photo shoot we'll meet for an initial consultation either at the studio or on location to discuss your requirements so that I fully understand what you'd like out of the session. I always shoot in colour, but can also process the photos in black and white or with a sepia finish so we'll discuss these options and what you plan to do with the photos. We'll talk about the various backdrop options and how to co-ordinate colour and clothing so that individuals don't clash with each other or their surroundings.
There are lots of little details from personal grooming to jewellery to consider when having your portrait taken. To help you prepare for the shoot, you'll receive my Top Tips for a Successful Portrait Session, a thorough checklist of Portrait Do's and Don'ts. When children are involved, we'll also talk about activities, toys or pets that you may want to include in the images. And we'll decide how to split the portrait session time between individual and group shots. This is also a great opportunity to get to know you and your family better so that I can adapt my style to suit the individuals I'm photographing.
During The Photo Shoot
A shoot typically takes 40 to 60 minutes, during which I'll photograph the client(s) in a variety of ways, sometimes changing the look and backdrop depending on the desired outcome. To catch the eye of the little ones and elicit screams of laughter, I often recruit family members or helpers to make funny faces, play charades, etc. I don't just shoot happy faces though, as I like to capture a range of expressions from grumpy toddlers to sleeping babies.
Photo Selection
Within one week of the shoot, clients will be able to view and select their images from a secure online viewing gallery. Clients can also make requests for photo enhancement or alternative finishes such as black and white or sepia. It will take a further five to seven days to process the images and prepare them for delivery/collection.
The Finished Product
Clients receive their portrait images in a timeless format that will survive for generations to come... high quality Digital JPEG Files on CD. For those of you living far from your loved ones, this means you can e-mail your photos to friends and family abroad or order photographic prints for delivery overseas... the perfect option for birthday and christmas gifts.
In addition to your CD of photos, you'll also receive 4R prints of all the images ordered with the option to order larger photographic prints in standard or custom sizes. All photographic prints are printed on premium, long lasting photographic paper.
For those looking for a more contemporary way to show their photographs, I also offer beautiful, made-to-measure canvas prints, as well as personalised Photo Albums (Coffee Table book).
